RegistrySmart: A Closer Look
General Information
Sometimes referred to as RegSmart, RegistrySmart claims to be an application that looks into your Windows registry and then cleans out the problem spots it sees there. It looks at certain areas that few other programs in this niche look into, but it also sees, almost imagines problems that aren’t even there. Even with the relatively low RegistrySmart activation fee of $19.95, you may want to think twice about this particular registry cleaning tool. To download RegistrySmart, you can visit their website at RegistrySmart.com to get the unlicensed version.
Overall Verdict
Aside from a couple of unique criteria, RegistrySmart is unimpressive with its feature set, interface and quality of customer support. If you’ve got $20 and the kind of luck that your downloads are usually virus-free, then feel free to get this software. Otherwise, you have other better options to consider.

Registry Repair Ability
Now, RegistrySmart gets some novelty points for looking into some very unique areas. For example, you won’t find many other registry cleaning programs that will examine driver and even sound device entries when they scan. That advantage, however, is canceled out because the RegistrySmart repair algorithm seems to be so aggressive that it turns up false positives. Numerous other RegistrySmart reviews corroborate this, saying that the program inflates the real problem by up to 10 times.
To be fair, RegistrySmart can scan and repair registry-related problems quite quickly, even on an outdated Windows XP machine. However, it is only paid and activated RegistrySmart.com members who get to use the program’s features to the fullest. And even with full functionality available, many RegistrySmart review writers have complained that the program is still plagued by the problems of the unregistered version.
Ease of Use
RegistrySmart is slightly easier to use than many similar programs because its home screen features prominently large buttons for all the commonly used functions. It is a lot less colorful or graphics heavy than the competition, but that’s not much of a disadvantage. Like most other registry cleaners, though, RegistrySmart doesn’t give a lot of leeway for advanced search preferences or options. It is either you scan one area or you don’t, and there’s not much of a middle ground.
Be warned that many download packages of RegistrySmart 4.2 - and many of the RegistrySmart 2008 releases, for that matter - include adware and spyware. There hasn’t been any comment yet from the company if this issue has been resolved for 2009 releases.
Customer Support
The RegistrySmart support system for customers is pretty good, especially since they have (what seems to be) a 24-hour live chat service. I was able to chat with a support representative for about 10 minutes, asking a few generic questions. Perhaps I wasn’t asking the right questions but the replies of the representative tended to be too vague to be useful. The replies sounded more like preprogrammed advertisements than anything.
Actual Customer Feedback
“I have been using RegistrySmart for the last 8 months and have found no problem with it.”
“It may make genuine repairs as well, but [some of] its claims seem to be unsubstantiated.”
