An In-Depth Review of Registry Easy

General Information

Registry Easy

Registry Easy is a registry cleaning tool that claims to be the best application around, but perhaps falls short of its assertions in some areas. The software does a very thorough - perhaps even too thorough – job of searching through the computer for errors. A free demo-license Registry Easy download is available at RegistryEasy.com, and it’ll set you back $34.95 to buy Registry Easy’s 3-computer 1-year license.

3 starsOverall Verdict

Registry Easy succeeds in finding and resolving basic registry errors, but I won’t soon be entrusting the more sensitive tasks to Registry Easy. Cost-wise, it is a little too expensive, especially considering the kind of functionality it offers and the occasional hazard that it presents with its too-aggressive algorithms. The seven updates that supposedly happened between Registry Easy 4.2 and the current version don’t seem to have added anything significant.

On a side note, the makers of Registry Easy seem to be as concerned with promoting themselves as they are about making a good registry cleaning application. A quick search of the term ‘registryeasy’ on Google turned up about a dozen reviews that seemed too positive by half to have been written by anyone but an advertiser.

3 starsRegistry Repair Ability

I tried running Registry Easy on an old 20GB machine running Windows XP, and it offered to scan as soon as I’d installed it. Within 1 minute and 18 seconds, it had given me a rather impressive 609 problem registry entries that it wanted to address. I was, however, quite disconcerted that Registry Easy was very eager to start touching – and deleting! - some of the registry entries that certain background Windows processes use. I don’t even see those entries on a regular basis, and having a program come and offer to delete them is slightly panic-inducing.

Many Registry Easy reviews complain that the program borders on being too aggressive with its methods. Some have even found that it did irreparable damage to certain device drivers and even frameworks (.NET comes to mind here), prompting a reinstall of the affected software. While that thankfully didn’t happen in my case, it is a very worrying series of reports nonetheless.

It soon became clear that it was registration and not the Windows registry that was Registry Easy’s primary concern. The demo version can only solve up to a dozen unique instances of registry problems (although it does so as well as the registered version). After the first scan-and-clean cycle, the program will also keep nagging you to cough up the $34.95 – the Registry Easy price for a full license.

2 starsCustomer Support

Although you can email their customer support 24×7 and they reply pretty fast (I got a reply within a couple of hours), their answers were a little too generic to be of any help or use. When it comes to applications like these, I usually look for customer support teams that give prompt responses, very thorough replies and effective troubleshooting tips. Unfortunately, the Registry Easy customer support only succeeds at the first and least significant of the three.

Actual Customer Feedback

“I really like the tools that come with it… [but] I think it is exaggerating how many mistakes there really are [sic].”

“It has some nice features but until there is a fix for the HP printers and .Net Framework it should be avoided.”
